My journey in physiotherapy...

I'm Millé, originally from South Africa, and I've been living in Ireland with my family since early 2020. I completed my Bachelor's Degree in Physiotherapy at the University of the Free State in 2010, and I spent my first year working at Pelonomi Regional Hospital, the largest public hospital in my region. There, I gained invaluable experience in Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Neurology, ICU, Paediatrics, and Musculoskeletal conditions.

In 2012, I moved to the private healthcare sector, where I worked with neurosurgical, orthopaedic, and paediatric patients at Mediclinic Private Hospital. During this time, I furthered my education by completing three Dry Needling courses, an internationally accredited diploma in Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapy, and a Principles of Pain course. These qualifications allowed me to open my own clinic in 2012, where I gained extensive experience treating a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions.

For the next seven years, as the owner of my private practice, I also worked at Life Rosepark Hospital in the NICU, PICU, and paediatric wards, treating pulmonary, orthopaedic, surgical, and developmental conditions in infants and children. My clinic focused on musculoskeletal conditions, chronic pain, pre- and postnatal care, women's health, and autoimmune syndromes. During this period, I discovered my passion for Pilates and began my training in Pilates principles for early rehabilitation.

In addition to my clinical work, I served as the course coordinator and chairperson of the Orthopaedic Manipulative Physiotherapy Group (OMPTG), where I organized musculoskeletal courses for the region. I also had the opportunity to contribute as a junior lecturer for the OMT course presented in Bloemfontein in 2014.

Alongside my professional achievements, I started my family and continued managing my practice until our move to Ireland in 2020, which unfortunately coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, I obtained my CORU recognition and became a member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP). I also kept myself busy by completing a variety of continuing professional development (CPD) courses, including certifications in Matwork, Reformer, and Pre/Postnatal Pilates through the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI), as well as numerous online courses.

In 2021, as Ireland began to reopen, I began working at a private clinic in Naas, attending in-person courses again, including a refresher course in Deep Dry Needling to ensure I maintained the highest level of skills.

In the summer of 2023, my family and I relocated to the beautiful countryside of Kilkenny, where I spent two years working in a busy clinic in the heart of the city. In my spare time, I enjoy running, and I recently completed a biomechanical assessment course and learned how to prescribe insoles with PPL, which ties in perfectly with my passion for treating and rehabilitating lower limb injuries, particularly for runners.

My experience spans from paediatrics to geriatrics, and I am deeply passionate about helping my clients achieve their physiotherapy goals, no matter their age or stage in life. I specialize in treating women's health conditions, such as urinary incontinence, pelvic pain, bowel issues, and pelvic organ prolapse. I've also played an active role in educating and upskilling junior staff members throughout my career.

With a background in sports, including tennis and swimming, I have a keen interest in the developing child. From the first two years of milestone development to biomechanical development in children and teens, I have gained invaluable experience in helping young patients reach their full potential.

Now, I am excited to embrace a new chapter by opening my own clinic in Castlecomer. I am eager to make a positive impact on the local community and look forward to working with those who need my support.

I hope to see you soon!
